Who was Chandragupta maurya ?

Chandragupta Maurya was the founder of the Great Mauryan Empire which is the largest empire ruled by any dynasty in India.The lineage of Chandragupta is unknown. Buddhist Source mahavamsa describes him the kshatriya clan of the Moriyas. According to this source his father was killed in a border fray and he was raised by his maternal uncle. Finding the sign of royalty Chanakya brought him to Taxila and educated him.

Conquests By Chandragupta Maurya

According to Jain and Greek Sources Chandragupta first freed Punjab from Greeks. Alexander the great death in 323 BC,followed by a confusion of heir provided opportunity to Chandragupta to give death blow to shaking Greeks empire in India.

After He freed Punjab and Noerth west region from the Greeks he diverted his attention towards Magdha's Nanda empire. According to Jain sources Chanakya made him to enter in alliance with Parvatka ( perhaps the king from Himalayas) and forced Nanda to surrender. Afterwards Nanda kings life was spared and he was asked to leave the kingdom with as much as wealth he can carry on his Chariot.

After Defeating the Nandas he Coronated himself the King of Magdha and made some fresh conquests to attain some territory. One of such conquest was with Greek King Selucus (304 BC).
Selucus had secured the throne of babylon after the death of Alexander the great. After securing throne he planed to recover lost Indian Territories so he crossed Indus. Chandragupta confronted him and the war resulted with the surrender fron Selucus and ended with the alliance between Chandragupa and him. Where he lost lots of area to chandragupta nad Chandragupta offerd him 500 War elephants. According to Appian there is marrige alliance between Chandragupta maurya and Selucus.

After this Chandragupta also have been supposed to won Gujrat and much area of South India. So he was ruling an extensive area by his time. According to chronology given in Puranas Chandragupta ruled for 24 years.

Chandragupta Maurya was considered at par with Alexander the Great by Greeks . He was just like Alexander energetic and brave and use to lead army in the battle by himself.
Its been said that to keep him unharmed from the poison from enemies Chanakya was making him to eat poison in small portion in his food. Once by mistake his wife ate his food and she was pregnant by that time. Then to keep baby safe from the poison Chanakya himself by opening her stomach pulled baby out. He was called Bindusar.
Chandragupta maurya has around 300 rooms in his Palace and he use to sleep in one room for one night only so no enemy can take advantage during sleep.
He was said to have secret room for the enemy where Enemy was called for peace and when he use to sleep on the bed it would rotate in 360 degree and there was no trace of him again.
The palace of chandragupta maurya was very big and beautiful and it was said to have hundred towers.
Chandragupta maurya was called Sandrocottus in Greek History.
