This question is very confusing that should we rank home page or inner pages? the answer is it depends on you.

The ultimate goal of your site is to generates leads and get them converted into business. but if many links and priority is being given to home page then its not advisable.

# It is been observed that when most traffic comes to your home page the bounce rate is higher of that website.

#Higher bounce rate can impact the overall ranking of blog or site.

The another thing is observed is that when your home page rank for major searches the the return visitors decreases which send out wrong message to google. It makes to think that we don't have quality information on our site.

I have a real estate website initially I ranked my home page in almost every keyword.Which resulted in high bounce rate and less returning visitors.

relevancy of link is very important to rank blog or page higher in Search engine and irrelevant link will not be any profit for your site.for example if your site is related to real estate then links coming to it from entertainment forum will not be that much of use as it will be from real estate forum.
